High-Risk Behaviors

The U.S. Department of Education created its Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention to support institutions of higher education (IHEs) in their efforts to combat illegal alcohol and other drug use and its consequences, including violence, at U.S. colleges and universities.

This section relates to the scope of problems relating to college and university students’ alcohol and other drug abuse and violence. It also outlines some consequences of these behaviors, and strategies campus officials can take to address them. For more information on prevention strategies to address these behaviors, visit the Environmental Management section of this site.
